Khaleej times 27 October 2012 - L.E

It is very sad news that the iconic comedian Jaspal Bhatti is longer with us. He was an incredible comedian; he was sharp with a great knack for satire.

With his death, the era of humour has come to an end in Hindi entertainment. India has lost one of the pioneers of Indian comedy who took comedy to greater heights with his superb TV shows like Flop Show and Ulta Phulta, which were one of the earliest satirical shows on TV.

Bhatti was a genuine comedian who made us laugh at the banalities of our lives. With his untimely death, an era of humour ends in Hindi entertainment. It will be appropriate to call him the icon of comedy who gave new dierction to humour. During the 1980s and 1990s, he was very popular face on Indian TV, he had also directed a film titled Mahaul Theek Hai, a satire on the police, administration and society, in 1999.

He was perhaps the most famous Sikh comedian, who acted in several Bollywood films. The late Bhatti had a degree in engineering and even during college days was very popular for his street plays denouncing corruption. Before debuting in TV serials, he even worked as a cartoonist.

Jaspal bhatti has etched the annals of comedy with golden embossed letters.
